Welcome to the MIT Media Lab Space Exploration Initiative’s (SEI) ‘care package’ for Full STEAM Ahead!
Here, you’ll find learning activities and design prompts that explore three research efforts currently underway at the SEI: The first focuses on cube satellites 🛰(or CubeSats), small vessels used to help us better understand our own planet as well as outer-space! You’ll also have a chance to learn about the future of life in space and on other planets, and specifically the future of meals and dining in those new frontiers. 👩🍳 Finally, you’ll learn about what life could be like on the moon, and how we could eventually live sustainably on the lunar surface. 👽👾
If you’re new to all things space exploration, we’ve also created a blueprint for getting acquainted with other projects and research in the field of space exploration, that also includes some key terms for this learning series. This is a great place to get you kicked off for this care package!
These learning materials were developed with several partners, including MIT AeroAstro and the Public Library Innovation Exchange (PLIX), a project of the Media Lab Learning Initiative.
About Full STEAM Ahead:
Full STEAM Ahead is a website MIT has assembled to share science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) based instructional materials for a global community of learners. The site is meant as a rapid response to the need for online resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are curating existing resources for K-12, higher education, and lifelong learners. Additionally, the website will provide a weekly package of relevant materials for K-12 students and teachers.
Our mission is to create and share high quality resources to facilitate digital and non-digital learning for K-12 and lifelong learners. By providing science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) based instructional materials and an open forum for users to share insights, we aim to inspire a diverse global community of educators, students, and parents to find innovative solutions to the challenges of learning at a distance. #OneMIT #MITFullSTEAM
